There are more than 400+ medical colleges which provides MBBS course in India. Out of these, nearly half of them are run by private education Institutions.
Out of total 50000 MBBS seats available in the country, 38000 seats are allocated by +2 cut off marks or by ranking in state or central level medical entrance examinations. This 38000 seats includes 100% government college seats and 65% of private medical college seats. Tuition fees in government colleges starts from Rs 12000 per year whereas in private medical college, merit seat allocated in counselling is close to Rs 3 lakhs per year.

Apart from state and central level counselling based on common entrance examinations, many Government Institutions and private Institutions conduct all india level entrance examinations to intake students for medical, dental, pharmacy and nursing courses for their universities and colleges.

If you miss the entrance or cut off marks, the only option available for Indian students is to enter medical education via management quota seats.
